BIRMINGHAM ‘CLOSED’

Scott Prime is the new men's singles champion, after beating team-mate and title holder Mike Browne, in a repeat of the 2006 final.  The Kingshurst Bribar duo fought out a tense final which went to the wire, with Prime winning 11-9 in the fifth, after Browne had clawed back from 10-6 down.

Prime has achieved the treble this season, after previous successes in the Warwickshire Closed and Birmingham League individual crown.
"All the hard work and practice sessions have paid off," enthused the 23 year old attacking star.  "I aim to move on from here and really establish myself on the English tournament scene."

Four times winner Ian Ferguson was beaten by Browne at the semi-final stage, while the fancied Steve Bertie lost out to Prime in an epic last four battle.

Helen Turner retained her ladies crown, with Sutton's Nabil Khalfey beating both England cadet Jack Williamson and rising star Alan Caffrey to take the junior title.
