ETTA NATIONAL CADET LEAGUE

Last Sunday saw the final round of this under 15 league at two Midland venues.

The Birmingham League had a representative team in the West Midlands section at Uxbridge TTC in Burton upon Trent and, by winning all 5 of their matches they finished as winners of Division 2.  12 year old Ian Anson (Baverstock) led the way, with a performance that earned him the 'Player of the Competition' award, but he was ably supported by Jordan Colen, Shane Gales (both Streetly) and Perry Nash (Kingshurst Bribar).

Shirley based Colebridge TTC's team, playing in the East Midlands section, could not match the Birmingham boys and finished in 4th place in Division 2.  However they too had their star, as their No 1, Rajinder Davsi emerged as the Division's Individual Winner with 18 out of 20 victories.  Davsi was supported by Sanika Karandikar, another 12 year old and one of the few girls playing in the competition, together with Oliver Cole.

ETTA OVER 60’s COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS (NORTHERN DIVISION).

Buoyed by near success in their recent 6-4 defeat by the Champions of the last two seasons, Worcestershire, Warwickshire travel to Halifax on 24th March to complete their fixtures with matches against Cheshire 1 and 2, Lancashire and Yorkshire.  Their aim is to finish at least second and thereby earn a place in the National Finals.  The all Colebridge team of Graham Hoskin, Neil Wheatley, Pete Roddy and Ann Lloyd are quietly confident.  Last year they were well beaten by both Worcestershire and Yorkshire, but won their other matches.  Team captain, Hoskin says, 'Worcestershire should win the Division but, if we can reproduce the form that we showed against them last month, defeating Yorkshire is a distinct possibility.  We beat both Cheshire teams last season and they have beaten Lancashire already, so we must have a good chance.'

MIDLAND LEAGUE VETERANS DIVISION 1

An exciting match is in prospect on Wednesday evening 28th March when Birmingham A take on Nottingham A at Colebridge TTC (7.30 pm).  Nottingham, last season's champions, who are currently undefeated, have 3 of the highest ranked players in the League in Trevor Kerry, Alan Philpott and Malcolm Truman, but Birmingham should be able to field their strongest team, with a resurgent Steve Bertie joining regulars, Mike Browne and Ray Dixon
