Sasha Grokhotov, kept Curdworth in the Premier Division title race, with a magnificent treble, in the 5-5 draw with Colebridge Aces. The Birmingham Midland League star beat Navinder Matharu 11-9 in the fifth after an epic battle, after crushing wins over Edward Lynn and Neil Wheatley. Hall Green 'B' go marching on, in their first season in the section, inflicting a shock 6-4 defeat on Kingshurst Bribar 'B'. The sides were locked at 4-4, when John Ludford came back to win from 10-6 down to Tony Carter in the decider, then Dean Hicks overpowered Karl Manning. Alan Caffery produced a classy maximum for Kings.
West Midlands Police 'A' beat leaders Sutton 'B' 7-3 in Division One, despite a
treble from Sutton's Nabil Khalfey. Sandwell Unison were 4-1 down to Kingshurst
Bribar 'D', but roared back for a 6-4 success. Sutton Coldfield had previously
beaten their 'A'' team 7-3, with another maximum from Khalfey. George Hutton of
Unison edged Roger Morris 11-6 in the fifth, in a match between the two oldest
players in the competition. Colebridge Eagles had a revenge 8-2 success over
Colebridge Giants, which saw Alan Hall and Mahroof Hussain gaining maximums.
The Giants and Bournville 'A' drew 5-5, with Bhavesh Amlani the only hat-trick
man for the visitors.
Jacombs have started their annual fight against relegation, with the 6-4 defeat
of Quinborne. Mark Georgevic had a comfortable hat-trick for Jacombs, after
Glenn Whitlock of Quins had started the match with a 16-14 deciding game success
over Barry Sterling.
Division Two leaders Smithereens had a crucial 6-4 victory over promotion
hopefuls Hall Green 'D'. Hall Green 'C' kept their hopes alive with a 6-4
triumph at Colebridge Falcons, although the home side put up strong resistance
thanks to a quality maximum from Oliver Lin. Beaufort Sports 'B' were
surprisingly held 5-5 by Sutton 'D', with Howard Knight in sparkling form for
the visitors. Sutton 'C' had a narrow 6-4 success over Colebridge Hawks, with
Alan Baker's 11-9 in the decider against Ann Lloyd, the crucial set in this
match. Pete Worship had a maximum for Sutton 'E' against Streetly in an 8-2
result, although Streetly youngster Shane Gales made a fine impression at this
level.
Colin Platt was unbeaten for West Midland Phones, in their 8-2 mauling of
Kingshurst Bribar 'E' in Division Three. Baverstock 'A had a jolt to their
title hopes, following a 6-4 home defeat to Bournville 'B'. Darren Williams was
outstanding for the winners, although the home side fought back strongly from
5-0 down. Paul Thomas continued his fine season for Ivy Leaf 'A', in their 7-3
success over Beaufort Sports 'C'.
Farhan Petkar and Steve Bailey trebles led Sutton 'F' to a 7-3 victory at
Walmley 'C' in Division Four. Streetly 'C' had an impressive 8-2 win at
Kingshurst Bribar 'F', courtesy of hat-tricks for Jordan Colen and Shane Gales.
Buster Cobley inspired Kings to a 7-3 win at Lodge Road, being unbeaten and
including exciting wins over Alton Burnett and Tony Shim. Streetly 'D' just
edged Sutton 'G' 6-4.
The Colebridge Jaguars trio of Fadi Ezaddin, Roy Holloway and Tim Fell blitzed
Baverstock 'C' 10-0 in Division Five, then followed up with an emphatic 8-2
success against Colebridge Indians. Baverstock were again on the receiving end,
as they lost 7-3 at Sutton 'H', despite a maximum for Jim Ferguson. Tom Moy and
Perry Nash both inflicted rare defeats on Ron Fraser of West Midlands Police
'B', as Kingshurst Bribar 'G' roared to an 8-2 victory, with the two promising
players both unbeaten.
The youngsters, along with Mitchell Nash had previously whitewashed Baverstock
'B' 10-0. Barry Sullivan helped himself to a hat-trick for Jacombs 'C' over
strugglers Team SCC in an 8-2 victory.
