Warwickshire finished second for the fourth season in succession, in the Divison Two county weekend, at St Austell. Mark Jackson (Leamington) was unbeaten, winning 8/8, while Kingshurst's Helen Turner showed her best form for the county with a 7/10 average. Somerset, Devon and Cornwall II were all beaten comfortably to set up a title decider against Cornwall I. Jackson was in superb form to beat both Adrian Noot and Jeremy Williams, with Turner getting the better of Shirley Luckhurst in a 7-3 defeat. Captain Ian Ferguson was delighted with the team effort and feels they can get out of the division nest year. "After all the controversy following my selection, we all played well and the team spirit was excellent," insisted Ferguson. "I genuinely feel we have the talent to get promotion, we just need that little bit of luck to progress. "If we could get Kelly (Sibley) and Greg (Baker) to play we would walk it." Scott Prime showed he has the ability to move up the England ranking list, after a narrow defeat against Darren Reed of Cornwall, while all the players had an above 50 per cent average.
Kingshurst Bribar 'A' inflicted a crushing 9-1 defeat on Colebridge Braves in the Premier Division to show the massive gap between them and the other leading teams.
Prime and Mike Browne were both unbeaten and 13 year old Jack Williamson showed his fighting qualities, with 12-10 in the fifth wins over Tom Hearne and Navinder Matharu.
Steve Pinder had an excellent treble for Hall Green 'A' at Sutton 'B', in a 5-5 draw in Division One. Colebridge Eagles remain in the promotion hunt, following their impressive 9-1 mauling of Kingshurst Bribar 'D', with maximums from Mark Hadley and Mahroof Hussain.
Walmley 'C' had wins over both Kingshurst Bribar 'E' and Hall Green 'D' in Division Four. Bob Mason was unbeaten in both matches, while Bob Hawthorne also won three at Hall Green. Luke Baker grabbed a treble for improving Baverstock 'A' in Division Four, in their 8-2 success over Streetly 'C'. James Watts of Kingshurst Bribar 'E', who has made an excellent start to the second half of the season, registered another treble in the 7-3 success over Colebridge Indians, which included an 11-3 in the fifth win over West Midlands Schools U16 champion Rajinder Davsi.
Lodge Road and Streetly 'D' drew 5-5 in Division Five, as Mark Cohen and Alton Burnett won the last two singles for Lodge to share the spoils. Youngster Perry Nash had a shock win over Burnett for Kingshurst Bribar 'F', but a Cohen hat trick ensured a 7-3 win for the visitors. Ryan Percival was the man of the match for Baverstock 'B' against Sutton 'G', but had no help from the other members of his team in a 7-3 reverse
