League Week 17 Report

 

The Kingshurst Bribar 'A' trio of Mike Browne, Scott Prime and Chris Leach crushed Streetly 'A' 10-0, in the Premier Division of the Birmingham League.  This was perfect preparation for the winner takes all 'Battle of Brum II' clash with Curdworth on Wednesday April 5, at the Curdworth club.  "They have two tough matches against Colebridge Aces before they play us and will do well to gain maximum points from these fixtures," stated Kingshurst supremo Simon Upson.  "We might have an easier task next week if the Aces can do us a favour".  Streetly lost again to West Midlands Phones by a 6-4 score-line, as Andy Evans gained another treble with a superb attacking display, well supported by Tim Freeman.  Ray Dixon and Mick Kendall were unbeaten, as Aces recorded an emphatic 8-2 success over Kingshurst Bribar 'B'. Super veteran Roger Morris won three singles, as Kings got back to winning ways against doomed Sutton Coldfield 'A' in an 8-2 victory.

 

Jon Ludlow is a man in form in Division One with the Beaufort Sports 'A' star producing a sparkling display in the 8-2 win over Bournville 'A', which included a four game success over the highly rated Bhavesh Amlani.  Kingshurst Bribar 'D' had a crucial 7-3 win over Sandwell Unison, with youngsters Jack Williamson and Luke Hemming leading the way.  Brian Morris got Unison back to winning ways, with a maximum against Jacombs 'A' in a 6-4 victory. Morris beat Mark Georgevic in the match of the night, winning 11-9 in the fifth.  Jacombs also went down 6-4 to Land Rover 'B', for whom Dave Ameghino was unbeaten.

 

Dan Ranford of Quinborne 'A' clinched the Division Two individual title with an impressive maximum against Colebridge Giants in a 7-3 success, with the visitors looking anxiously over their shoulders at Smithereens, who need a 7-3 win over Colebridge Eagles in their last match, to force a play-off for the second promotion spot.  Colebridge Falcons and Sutton 'D' drew 5-5, with Sutton's Martin Round the only unbeaten player.  John Cox was unbeaten for Falcons in their 8-2 win at relegated St Chads.

 

Darren Williams won three for Bournville 'B' in their 6-4 home win over Colebridge Indians, with Williams pulling back from 8-4 down in the fifth to beat Neil Buckley. Beaufort Sports 'B' just edged Walmley 'B' 6-4, via a Robert Sheldon treble.  Dave Butler of Sutton 'F' was taken to hospital with a foot injury suffered in his opening singles against Farhan Petkar of their 'G' side and forced to concede his games.  Petkar and Nabil Khalfey showed rich promise in their remaining games in a 7-3 win. Sutton 'H' blitzed Land Rover 'F' 10-0 in Division Four, whilst Hockley Heath 'C' and Lodge Road drew 5-5.
