Birmingham remain unbeaten in the Midland League, as they chase their first title in a decade. Edward Lynn, Sasha Grokhotov and Navinder Matharu, put in a fine team effort, to register a 6-4 win at Oxford. Matharu won two singles in his first outing of the season, as did Grokhotov.
The RAF and Gloucester now stand between Birmingham and the title, with the
Gloucester fixture on April 27 at the Colebridge club, looking to be a winner
takes all encounter.
Kingshurst Bribar ‘C’ appear to have ended Broadway’s survival hopes in the Premier Division after a 6-4 victory, despite the usual treble from Carl Morgan.
Andy Choi gained a maximum for Sutton ‘A’, in their 8-2 success at Sandwell Unison in Division One. John Overton’s treble for Colebridge Giants at F.Jacombs ‘A’, was not enough to ensure victory, as the home side fought back for a 5-5 draw. Jacombs suffered a 9-1 thumping at in form Kingshurst Bribar ‘D’, as Roger Morris and Paul Hancox both rattled up maximums. West Midlands Police ‘A’ registered an emphatic 10-0 score at Quinborne, but Dave Ameghino and co were taken the distance in five sets.
In Division Two Steve Smith and Simon Bailey were both unbeaten for Smithereens
against Colebridge Falcons. Hall Green ‘C’ cemented their promotion place, with
a 7-3 success at Streetly ‘B’, as Ian Scott and Steve Pinder won three each.
Colebridge Hawks at last gained a victory, with a 6-4 home win over Sutton
Coldfield ‘D’, thanks to hat-tricks from Ann Lloyd and Mick Welsh. Rob Sheldon
was at his explosive best for Beaufort Sports 'B', in their 7-3 defeat of Sutton
'E'. Sutton 'C' got the better of Hall Green 'D' by 7-3 in a mid table battle,
as George Webb registered another maximum.
Walmley 'B' have endured a miserable campaign in Division Three and this continued against Kingshurst Bribar 'E', suffering a 9-1 mauling, at the hands of James Watts, Mitchell Nash and Arthur Sutton. Kings were themselves on the end of a 9-1 score, going down to Bournville 'B', for whom Darren Williams and Peter Haslam were both unbeaten.
F.Jacombs 'B' hammered Streetly 'D' 8-2, with Robert Spiers gaining a treble.
Colebridge Jaguars thumped Sutton Coldfield 'H' 10-0 in their final home match, with Len Sutton's 12-10 in the fifth success over Ron O'Malley, was the set of the night.
