Birmingham made the perfect start to their Midland League programme, with a crushing 9-1 defeat of outclassed Nuneaton. Ian Ferguson and Sasha Groghotov were both unbeaten, with Edward Lynn also in fine form. The clash with Leamington next month, could well decide the destination of the title, even at this early stage of the campaign.
Birmingham and Warwickshire champion Scott Prime of Kingshurst Bribar 'A' has continued the 2007/8 League season as he ended the Summer League, by losing to lower ranked opposition. Steve Robinson of Broadway beat both Prime and England ranked cadet Jack Williamson, but Michael Browne celebrated his inclusion in the Warwickshire first team squad, with an awesome treble, in an 8-2 success. Alan Caffrey was outstanding for Kingshurst Bribar 'A', in their 6-4 defeat of Hall Green B.
Tony Carter offered fine support for Kings, despite a smart win for Dean Hicks against him.
Sutton Coldfield 'B' got the better of their 'A' side in Division One, thanks to an outstanding treble from Birmingham junior champion, Nabil Khalfey. Frank Cotter was another maximum man with his immaculate defence proving too much for Colebridge Eagles, in a 7-3 victory for Colebridge Giants.
Sutton Coldfield 'D' had a 6-4 success at Colebridge Falcons in Division Two, with Chris Harris recording a treble. Newcomer Oliver Lin picked up two for Falcons.
Youngster Ian Anson seems to have stepped up a level for Baverstock 'A' in Division Three, as he notched up another three wins, in an emphatic 8-2 win over Kingshurst Bribar 'E'. Scott Danter was the star, as Baverstock followed up with another 8-2 score, this time against an experienced Bournville 'B' outfit. Beaufort Sports 'C' have a mixed start to the season, with Ash Kapadia inspiring them to a 6-4 success at Bournville 'C', but a superb victory for the unpredictable Rex Gines of Ivy Leaf 'A' over Kapadia, resulted in a 6-4 reverse.
Lodge Road have suffered two heavy defeats in Division Four, to Jacombs 'B' and Kingshurst Bribar 'F' respectively, both by 8-2 margins. Robert Spiers was the hat-trick hero for Jacombs, with both David Lewis and Derek Broadbent unbeaten for Kings. Sutton Coldfield 'F' hammered Beaufort Sports 'D' 9-1, with maximums from Farhan Petkar and Steve Bailey. Dave Butler, Derek Turner and John Pepper all won two each for Sutton 'G' in their 6-4 success at Walmley 'C', with Turner gaining a stunning 17-15 in the fifth triumph over Tim Stevens.
Sutton 'H' are the early pace setters in Division Five, with easy wins over both Baverstock 'C' and newcomers Ivy Leaf 'B'. Ron O'Malley of Sutton is unbeaten, but suffered a scare against Derek Palser of Ivy Leaf, before succeeding 11-9 in the fifth. Perry and Mitchell Nash along with Kevin Cobley, teamed up for a 10-0 whitewash, for Kingshurst Bribar 'G' at Baverstock 'C'.
