Jon Ludlow hit top form, as Beaufort Sports 'A' had a narrow 6-4 success over Land Rover 'A', in the Premier Division of the Birmingham League.  Dean Opbroek took Ludlow the distance, but the talented top spinner won 11-9 in the fifth.

 

Hall Green 'B' failed to gain maximum points for the first time this season against Land Rover 'B' in a 7-3 win in Division One.  Barry Clarke came back from two games and 10-4 down in the third to beat Dean Hicks.  The ageless George Hutton gained a treble for Sandwell Unison over Colebridge Giants in a 7-3 triumph, after Frank Cotter had given the visitors a flying start against Brian Morris.  Clive Stretton and Andy Choi both gained maximums as Sutton 'A' trimmed Jacombs 'A' 9-1, while the youngsters of Sutton 'B edged strugglers Hall Green 'A' 6-4.

 

Martin Round was unbeaten for Sutton 'D' at Colebridge Hawks in Division Two, in a match that ended 5-5.  Relegated Sutton 'C' had two close encounters, with Walmley 'A' and Streetly 'B', winning 6-4 and sharing the spoils 5-5 respectively.  Walmley and Quinborne 'A' also drew 5-5, with last seasons individual winner Dan Ranford unbeaten for the visitors.  Ranford followed up with another treble in the 8-2 hammering of Colebridge Falcons.  Roger Townson of Land Rover 'C', pipped Mike Standen of Streetly 'B' 14-12 in the decider in the last set of the night, to follow up other last gasp wins from team-mates Chris Allen and Mike Bere, when the match was in the balance at 4-3.

 

Steve Atkinson played his first match for seven years for Bournville 'C' in Division Three, but it was a Rob Sheldon inspired Beaufort Sports 'B' who succeeded 6-4.  John Dineen snapped up a classy treble for Land Rover 'E' in their 5-5 score line with Hall Green 'C'.

 

In Division Four Maurice Eggleton and David Ranford both won three singles, as Quinborne 'B' won 6-4 at Walmley 'C'.  Ashish Kapadia and Ron Kite both won three, as promotion favourites Beaufort Sports 'C' crushed Baverstock 'A' 9-1. Sports followed this with an emphatic 10-0 demolition of Jacombs 'B'.

 

Baverstock 'B' had mixed fortunes in Division Five, beating Jacombs 'C' 8-2 and losing by the same margin to Beaufort Sports 'D'.  Ron Fraser picked up his usual maximum for West Midlands Police, in their 5-5 draw with Land Rover 'F'. Police registered a 10-0 win against the youngsters of Kingshurst Bribar "F'.
