Navinder Matharu put in a career best performance, as Birmingham got off to a flying start in their Midland League campaign, with a crushing 8-2 win at Stafford. Matharu won all his sets in three games, which included a comfortable success against highly rated Stafford No 1 Adrian Hough. Skipper Scott Prime and Tom Hearne also weighed in with two singles wins, with Matharu and Prime winning a close doubles contest. The team will remain unchanged for the trip to Gloucester on November 19.
Les Minott and Bhavesh Amlani were both unbeaten as Bournville 'A' reeled off a crucial 7-3 win over Land Rover 'A', in the Premier Division of the Birmingham League. Kingshurst Bribar 'A' showed they are in no mood to relinquish their title, with a 9-1 demolition of Colebridge Braves. Streetly 'A' gained their first win of the campaign over Beaufort Sports 'A' in a 6-4 success, despite an impressive treble from Beaufort's Andrew Jackson. Karl Manning was impressive for Kingshurst Bribar 'B', gaining a maximum in the 8-2 home victory over West Midland Phones 'A'.
Kingshurst Bribar 'D', surprisingly struggling in Division One, lost to both Colebridge teams in the division. Neil Wheatley was unbeaten for Colebridge Eagles in a crushing 8-2 score-line, while the Colebridge Giants trio of Frank Cotter, Brian Morris and John Overton put in a great team effort in a 6-4 success.
Sutton 'D' won 7-3 at Land Rover 'C' in Division Two, courtesy of yet another Martin Round maximum. Paul Thomas won three for Land Rover 'D' against Smithereens, but a doubles win in the fifth from Simon Bailey and Norman Harvey proved crucial in a 6-4 success for Smithereens.
Maurice Clayton was impressive for Walmley 'B', in a 7-3 win at West Midland Phones 'B', in Division Three, while Sutton 'E' triumphed by the same score-line over Bournville 'B'.
Kingshurst Bribar 'E' won 7-3 at Colebridge Indians in Division Four.
Lodge Road hammered Kingshurst Bribar 'F' in Division Five, as Alton Burnett and Mark Cohen gained maximums and Dave Tart was unbeaten for Streetly 'D' in a 7-3 victory over Beaufort Sports 'D'.
