Birmingham's Midland League star Navinder Matharu took his unbeaten form for the city into the Premier Division of the Birmingham League with a maximum for Colebridge Braves at West Midland Phones. The Shirley outfit thrashed the home side 8-2, despite another fine display from Andy Evans, who won two singles and lost 16-14 to Matharu in the decider. Al Broadbent won three for Kingshurst Bribar 'C' in their 8-2 hammering of Streetly 'A'.
Hall Green 'B' continued their awesome form in Division One, registering a 9-1 at Colebridge Giants. Colebridge Eagles lead the chasing pack but they were held to a 5-5 draw by Sandwell Unison, for whom Ashley Savell-Boss secured a classy treble. Clive Stretton gained a maximum for Sutton 'A' at Hall Green 'A', but the home side showed their best form of the campaign to draw 5-5.
Dan Ranford could well be heading for another individual title in Division Two as he led Quinborne 'A' to a 6-4 success at Smithereens. Sutton 'C' pulled back from 4-0 down to draw 5-5 at Colebridge Falcons, while Colebridge Hawks beat Land Rover 'C' 6-4 thanks to braces from Matt Allen and Mick Walsh. Martin Round picked up another treble for Sutton 'D' against Land Rover 'C in a 6-4 victory, although Tony Arends took him to 13-11 in the fifth. Streetly 'B' won 6-4 at Walmley 'A', with David Bissell picking up three for the visitors.
George Webb made a stunning debut for Sutton 'E' in Division Three as the former Essex junior proved a class above his Bournville 'C' opponents in a 5-5 draw. Hall Green 'C' were another side 4-0 down who pulled back to draw their match against Bournville 'B', with Bernard Oliver and Yaj Ghosh both winning in the fifth against Pete Haslam and Roger Hookes respectively. John Dineen was unbeaten for Land Rover 'E' at Walmley 'B', although Richard Kendrick enabled the home side to share the spoils with a 12-10 in the fifth success over Jim Whitehead.
Robert Spiers and Howard Lewis were both unbeaten for Jacombs 'B' at Kingshurst Bribar 'E', in a 7-3 success in Division Four.
Alton Burnett of Lodge Road, came back from two games down to beat Tim Bellamy of Land Rover 'F' in a Division Five clash, in a 5-5 score-line.
