Birmingham had their Midland League title hopes all but extinguished, after suffering a 7-3 defeat to Leamington, at the Colebridge club in Shirley. Warwickshire champion Scott Prime was too good for both Earl Sweeney and Ian Packford, but Leamington's Mark Jackson beat him in a tremendous set, which included a remarkable score of 20-18 in the third game. Edward Lynn picked up his first win in Birmingham's colours against Sweeney, but this was the extent of the home side’s success.
The next match is on Sunday January 21 against Loughborough, again at the Colebridge club (2pm).
The Birmingham League commences its second half of the season on Monday, with Kingshurst Bribar looking certain to retain their Premier Division title. Strength in depth is the key to the Kingshurst success, with Prime, Mike Browne, Chris Leach, Steve Bertie and Jack Williamson, all playing their part in the first half of the campaign.
