Birmingham champion Steve Bertie, has announced he is to play for Broadway, in the 2008/9 Birmingham League season. Bertie, who has been with the all conquering Kingshurst Bribar team for the past two seasons, will be part of a powerful squad that includes his brother Lester, Peter Waite and Andrew Dixon.
Smiths Wood A started their Birmingham Summer League campaign, with an
emphatic 9-1 demolition of Colebridge B in Division One, with Alan Caffery and
Tony Carter gaining maximums. Colebridge A beat Smiths Wood B 8-2, as
Edward Lynn put on an unbeaten display, but Helen Turner gained some consolation
for Smiths, with wins over Chris Burgess and Neil Wheatley.
Jon Ludlow was in fine form for Division Two favourites Beaufort A, in their
8-2 home success over Bournville. Sutton D beat their C side 8-2, with Alan
Baker a maximum man. Alan White, Suttons new recruit from Walmley, won two on
debut, as did pen holder Roy Astle.
Baverstock A won 8-2 at Sutton E, with hat-tricks from Peter Kirkham and
John Harrison, in Division Three. The Streetly B trio of Alex Davis, Shane
Gales and Jordan Colen thumped Sutton Coldfield F 10-0.
Reece Underhill notched a treble for Smiths Wood D, in their 7-3 victory over
Baverstock C in Division Four. Rob Rowson picked up three singles for
Beaufort Sports B, as they hammered Sutton G 8-2, while Lodge Road had an
8-2 success over newcomers Monarch. Mark Cohen won three for Lodge, with Steve
Wright picking up two for Monarch on his debut.
